Expedition Cruising and the Environment

Many expedition cruise destinations have pristine environments, so it is extremely important to take extra precautions when visiting to minimize your impact. Expedition cruise companies are fully committed to preserving unique ecosystems and follow a strict guidelines to ensure they leave things as they were prior to arrival. As a visitor, you may be asked to do your part to protect the environment as well by following special guidelines prior to and during your cruise.

During Your Voyage:

  • Respect wildlife - do not feed, touch or handle birds or animals; keep a reasonable amount of distance when photographing wildlife.
  • Respect vegetation.
  • Take only photos and leave only footprints! Do not take any biological or geological items as souvenirs, and do not dispose of litter on land.
  • Before and after shore landings in certain destinations, you may be required to wash boots thoroughly to remove any dirt and debris.
  • Make every effort between landings to ensure boots and clothing are dry and free of any foreign material.
  • Always stay with the group and follow any advice or instructions given by group leaders.
