Batsfjord is perched on the northern side of the Varanger peninsula in Norway's northernmost province of Finnmark. While the frigid waters of the Barents Sea batter much of the rocky coast, Batsfjord is sheltered from the worst of the elements and comfortably accommodates Arctic travelers. During the summer, guests often visit the abandoned fishing villages of Hamningberg, with its 19th-century wooden buildings, and Syltefjord, home to seal colonies and sea eagles. Other popular excursions include hiking, trips to nature reserves, deep-sea angling and casting lines for salmon in streams and rivers.
