Located halfway between New Zealand and the Americas, Pitcairn Island was the first South Pacific territory to become a British colony and today remains one of the worlds most remote, inhabited islands with a population of approximately 45 people. This small volcanic island is characterized by its tropical climate and rocky coastlines, and was named and inhabited by mutineers upon the historical British ship the HMS Bounty.
