Skjervoy, both an island and municipality in Troms County, is set amid verdant mountains and picturesque fjords. The archipelago, home to some 2,900 citizens, relies heavily on fishing and shipyard industries. Historic attractions on the namesake isle include the wooden Skjervoy Church, built in 1728, and ancient settlement sites of the native Sami people. Popular excursions are fishing trips, where anglers can cast for giant halibut and cod, as well as whale-watching expeditions to spot humpbacks and orcas.
