She is named after the Arctic crown of Norway, an island called Spitsbergen in the Svalbard archipelago. HX has a history of traveling to Spitsbergen, dating back to 1896 with the line's ‘Sports Route’. After a complete reconstruction in 2016, MS Spitsbergen features modern, comfortable public areas and cabins, and the decor reflects the color palette of the sea. The ship is environmentally-friendly and continuous improvements are made to reduce emissions and fuel consumption.
